Grow in Health
Just because it's growing, doesn’t mean it's healthy
By Chardonnay Beaver
Consider your life as a bed of soil. Throughout our lifetime, we encounter impartations, like the sowing of seeds. Depending on the conditions of your soil (a.k.a your life), not every seed will take root.
Though I could delve deeper into the concept of life being a garden, I want to focus on another perspective.
Lately, I’ve been fascinated by the idea that growth isn’t an indication of health. Though all things grow, it doesn’t mean they're healthy. Thus, let’s talk about weeds…
Weeds are those annoyingly tall or short green, leafless plants. They’re unassuming and grow quite fast. Weeds are plants whose seeds aren’t sown. Ironically, weeds tend to be blown in by the wind. Once they land in place, they will grow a long vein into the ground and eventually take root. Weeds often live under the radar, germinating beneath the surface.
Though weeds grow, they aren’t healthy. Weeds compete with other plants for natural resources: water, space, sunlight, and soil-rich nutrients.
Unhealthy relationships, false beliefs, and detrimental practices are weeds in our garden of life. Here’s the key point: all things grow when given resources (space, time, attention, care), but not everything is healthy.
Words of Wisdom by Char of The Week: What are the weeds in your life? Check the garden of your life and evaluate what relationships, environments, beliefs, and practices leave you feeling depleted. Just because it grows doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Just because there’s motion, doesn’t mean it’s progress. John 15.
