How to embrace your power, and own it!

Have you ever heard the sound of your voice and cringed? Many people dislike the sound of their voice when they hear it recorded, and it’s a quite common experience.
When we speak, we hear our voice in two ways. It’s called The “Voice Confrontation” Effect. Externally, through air conduction, as other people hear it.
Internally, through bone conduction, which adds a lower-frequency resonance. This makes our voice sound deeper and richer to ourselves.
When we listen to a recording, we only hear the external version, which can sound higher-pitched and unfamiliar. This difference can cause discomfort when hearing our recorded voice.
Hearing your recorded voice may feel uncomfortable, but don’t let that stop you from using it. Stay familiar with your voice and never be afraid to speak honestly.
As a public speaker, I had to overcome the discomfort of hearing my voice. I’ve been public speaking since the age of 12, so I’ve had some time to outgrow this phenomenon.
The real confrontation isn’t just the discomfort of hearing our voice; it’s that we’ve grown distant from it emotionally and psychologically.
Overtime, we’ve bit our lips, held our tongues, and quiet ourselves. Now, as a woman, I recognize the power of my voice. Navigating the power of my voice, and embracing my truth across dynamics is a skill I’m still sharpening.
