The Verdict Derek Chauvin found guilty.

by Chardonnay Beaver

The highly anticipated verdict for the trial of Derek Chauvin was released on the afternoon of April 20th, 2021. Last May, many watched for over eight minutes as Chauvin knelt on the neck of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Almost a year later, the jury found Chauvin guilty of three counts of murder: second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Twelve jurors championed Black lives, in spite of the lack of precedent. This verdict is a prime example of accountability that can be fostered in the judicial system. Most

importantly, the efforts of all people helped to shed light on the inhumanity of police brutality and racism in American society. Continue to fight for justice! When we all fight together,

change must happen.
