The author of this poem is Amiri Baraka (1934-2014). He was a native of Newark, New Jersey. He was the editor of Yugen and Kulchur magazines, has published poetry collections and was a writer on Jazz for such magazines as "Downbeat". This writer has been a strong artistic link of the Unbroken Chain of Black Poetry.
