JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON
With the Holidays front and center, the two Seattle Sports teams delivered some early gifts. The Seattle Sounders beat LAFC 2-1 to advance to Major League Soccer’s Western Conference Final. A win over the LA Galaxy would see the Sounders host the Championship game. Cue up the beat LA chant. The Sounders win over LAFC broke a 10-game winless streak. Yup, the last time the Sounders beat LAFC in a playoff game was in 2019. LAFC had not lost a playoff in five years. So yes, the Sounder’s win over LAFC was epic and timely, and it exacted some revenge. The win was no easy task for the Sounders, who had the best defense in the league. The game went into extra time after a 1-1 scoreline in regulation. Mercer Island high school Jordan Morris hit the game-winner; the rest is history.
They were speaking of history. How about the Seahawks? Like the Sounders, the Seahawks exacted some payback on a familiar foe. The Seahawks snapped a six-game winless streak against the Niners with an improbable 20-17 win in Levi Stadium, home of the Niners. Empowered by the win, the Seahawks continued winning and beat the Arizona Cardinals 16-6 to take first place in the NFC West. So, the Sounders and Seahawks delivered improbable wins to their fan bases. I would say that’s a pretty good way to start the Holidays.
