Seattle, WA – Vandals stole all electrical outlets at Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Memorial Park, preventing the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee (MLKCC) from lighting the trees for Black History Month (BHM), a tradition since 2019.
MLKCC urges the community to call elected officials and demand urgent repairs so the trees can be lit before February ends. The organization is also forming Friends of MLK Jr. Civil Rights Memorial Park to help protect and preserve this historic space.
Despite this setback, MLKCC will continue its Black History Month tradition by hosting its annual MLKCC BHM Awards Ceremony on February 17, 2025, at Holgate Street Church of Christ (2600 S Holgate St, Seattle). A free dinner reception begins at 5:30 PM, followed by the program at 6:30 PM.
Take Action:📞 Call elected officials to demand repairs.📢 Spread the word.🤝 Join Friends of MLK Jr. Park & attend the Black History Month Awards Ceremony.
