Lorrita Williams Named Coach of the Year by the YMCA

Lorrita Williams has been named Coach of the Year by the YMCA. She has had three consecutive undefeated seasons coaching youth players in basketball at the Meredith Mathews East Madison YMCA. For the past three years Coach Williams has trained a YMCA team called “The Future” and for each of those three years the team has won every game—even when opponents had twice as many players on their team, even when “The Future” players were injured, and even when they had to come from behind! Coach Williams has received high praise from players, parents, and YMCA representatives.

Parent Christina Johnson said: "Coach Williams is committed to excellence, for herself and her players on and off the court! She trains her players to do their best -- every time!"

Branch Executive Danny Cage Jr., said "Lorrita's dedication and passion on and off the court has been an inspiration to us all!" Mr. Cage thanked Coach Williams for "coaching not just the game, but the hearts and minds of each and every player."

Similarly, Family Programs and Youth Sports Program Director Nikita Love thanked Coach Williams for continuing to give her time to Meredith Mathews: "We appreciate your dedication to ensuring these young athletes have the opportunity to learn and grow under your leadership. Your drive and passion for the game of basketball is truly admirable and we hope you continue to remain a part of the Meredith Mathews family." Kerry Barnes, another YMCA employee, who has known Coach Williams for  years, said "Ms. Lorrita has been a light in the YMCA family for many years. She has been an amazing person to know. Her mentorship has shaped the kids into not only better athletes, but better people."

Coach Williams plans on continuing the winning streak next season!
