The Commitments That Shape The Future
By Chardonnay Beaver – chardonnaybeaver.com
We make commitments to ourselves because deep down, we want growth, purpose, and change. Whether it’s chasing a dream, improving our health, or breaking a bad habit, these promises reflect the future we want.
They are a declaration of who we hope to become.
But keeping them? That’s the hard part. Life gets busy. Doubt creeps in. The comfort of old habits pulls us back. The comfort of our environment keeps us stuck in place. Unlike commitments to others—where accountability is external—self-promises rely on inner discipline. No one is watching. No one will call you out if you quit.
Oftentimes, we walk ourselves backwards into environments of pain and brokenness when the road to our promise gets rocky. I believe God uses rocky roads to reveal who we are, as He shapes who we prayed to be.
That’s why self-commitment is powerful. When you follow through, you build self-trust. You prove to yourself that your word matters. Confidence grows. Momentum builds. The secret? Start small. Stay consistent. Remind yourself why you began.
Words of Wisdom by Char of The Week: When freedom feels unfamiliar, many retreat to comfort, even if it’s limiting. Conquer yourself, and you can conquer anything. We control choices, not consequences. Write your commitments, share them, pray over them, and stay the course. Don’t let impatience lead to compromise.
