Vergerine Barnes was born in East St. Louis, IL on January 26, 1932, to Booker T Withers and Augusta Lewis who preceded her in death. She graduated from Lincoln HS (East St Louis IL). Vergie moved to Seattle in the early 1950’s; graduated from Edison School of Nursing (Seattle Central College) as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Vergie’s nursing career extended over 50 years where she worked at Seattle General, Doctors, University of Washington and after 30 plus years she retired from Providence Hospital and Branch Villa Nursing Home.
Vergerine is survived by her children: Brenda (Ralph) Carrington, Patricia (Lawrence) Sam, David, Steven (Judy) Barnes. Grandchildren: Myran, Komita, David II, Cesara, Stephan, DeVante, Lawrence Jr., also four sisters, two brothers, a host of family and friends.
Mother Vergie’s enjoyment in life was all about her family. She worked hard all her life to provide for her children with unconditional love. She is known throughout the community for her compassionate nursing and nurturing spirit to those she cared for.

Our Queen Mother Vergie “Lady Butterfly” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of family.
