JOEY GAINED HIS WINGS July 15, 2023, PEACEFULLY WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS BY HIS BEDSIDE. JOEY WAS BORN OCTOBER 16, 1958, TO ALVERNON AUSTIN AND BISHOP (BOB) COLLINS.BORN PREMATURE, HE WIEGHED 2LBS AND FOUGHT TO STAY ALIVE. JOEY HAS BEEN A FIGHTER FROM DAY ONE.
AT A YOUNG AGE JOEY WAS VERY ACTIVE, HE LOVED FOOTBALL AND STARTED PLAYING AT THE AGE OF 8 YEARS OLD. WHILE PLAYING FOR RAINIER PLAY FIELD JOEY SET MANY RUSHING AND RECEIVING RECORDS FOR EACH LITTLE LEAGUE AGE GROUP HE PLAYED FOR. FROM THE EIGHTY-NINERS, UP TO THE BANTAMS. WHILE JOEY PLAYED FOR RAINIER GREEN, THEY WENT TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP EVERY YEAR.
JOEY WAS ALSO A VERY ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE AFRICAN DANCE, DRUM ENSEMBLE GROUP “THE OGUNDAS” DURING HIS HIGH SCHOOL YEARS JOEY WAS LOVED BY MANY HE WAS ALWAYS THE LIFE OF THE PARTY. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY AND WOULD NEVER MISS A FAMILY FUNCTION. HE WAS ALSO A VERY LOYAL FRIEND AND WOULD RIDE WITH YOU UNTIL THE “WHEELS FELL OFF.” HE WAS THE KIND OF FRIEND THAT WOULD HAVE YOUR BACK NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
EVEN THOUGH HE WAS THE SECOND CHILD, JOEY WAS ALWAYS OUR PROTECTOR AND EVERYONE THAT KNEW JOEY AUSTIN KNEW HE COULD THROW THEM HANDS, AND ABOUT HIS FAMILY HE WOULDN’T HESITATE TO LAY THEM “PAWS” ON WHOEVER.THE HIGHLIGHT OF HIS LIFE IS WHEN HE BECAME AN UNCLE, JOEY WAS VERY PROUD TO BE CALLED “UNCLE JOE.” HE LOVED ALL OF HIS NIECES AND NEPHEWS AND HE HAD HIS OWN SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM!
JOEY WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HIS MOTHER, ALVERNON AUSTIN, FATHER BISHOP (BOB) COLLINS, NIECE TALISHA JOHNSON. JOEY LEAVES US TO RMEMBER HIM IN LOVE, 2 SISTERS: JUDY BARNES (MIN. STEVEN BARNES), JUNIECE COLLINS (JOSIAH) 2 BROTHERS: LLOYD (RUSTY) HESTER (LISA) AND CLINARD CHILLERS (BELINDA) 1 BONUS SISTER/GOOD FRIEND DEBBIE WHITFIELD 2 BONUS BROTHERS LAWRENCE STUBBS SR AND
VICTOR CURTIS AND A HOST OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
