In Loving Memory of Friendly Oscar Mitchell Jr.


Friendly Oscar Mitchell, Jr. was born October 19, 1949, to the union of Friendly Oscar and Claudia Mae Mitchell. He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington where he participated in many church activities. Friendly attended Madrona Elementary, Meany Junior High and Franklin High School. At Franklin he was a Yell Leader “Go Quakers!” And a profound tenor vocalist in the Bel Cantos Choir where he had the opportunity to travel Europe singing in the choir. After graduation, Friendly joined the United States Marine Corp where he served honorably from June 1968 to May 1970, which included active duty in Vietnam. He later pursued his career with the City of Seattle Fire Department in 1972. He served on Engine 33 and 40 as well as Ladders 5 and 12. He was a member of the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters. After 27 years of dedicated service Friendly retired from the Fire Department in 2000. Friendly Oscar Mitchell, Jr.’s Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Damascus International Fellowship, 5261 Rainier Ave. S at 11 o’clock.
