Ethelmarie Dorothy Hubbard, born February 8, 1955, in Seattle to Martha Gilliam and James Hubbard Sr., peacefully departed Nov 23rd at 69 years. Adoring mother to Swanszette and Ya’vonne Hubbard and proud grandmother to four granddaughters: Maria, Maya, Uma, and Nyomi Garcia. Ethelmarie is survived by siblings James Hubbard Jr., Darcell Hayes, Jennifer Turner, and Jason Turner. Nieces and nephews; Devon Howard, Raylynn Watson, Bryan Hayes, Jason, Jason and Josiah Turner. Whom each held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her father, and sister, Linda Robinson.
A passionate historian and genealogist, Ethelmarie spent years researching and preserving Black family histories in Seattle. She volunteered with the Black Heritage Society and MOHAI, curating exhibits that honored Black Seattleites, including her own family’s legacy.
