Dorothy Lee Mitchell Jones was born in Seattle Washington, on December 13, 1948, to the late Horace Mitchell, Sr. of Savanah, GA, and the late Ola Mae Williams of Seattle via Idabel, OK. Dorothy passed away on September 20, 2023, in Wilmar, AR.
The second child of seven children, she attended Leschi Elementary, Washington Jr. High and Garfield High School; then later attended Seattle Central Community College.
Dorothy spent the first part of her career as a buyer for The Bon Marche in Tukwila, before joining the City of Seattle Water Department. She eventually retired as a florist, and provided care for those in need. A loving mother, strong in her Christian faith, she was a member of House of Refuge Baptist Church, Seattle: she was on the usher board, sang in the choir and prayed for anyone in the need of prayer. She loved travel, reading novels and creating beautiful flowers for family and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her youngest son, Chaun Marcellus Mitchell and sister, Sheryl Paul Colvin and (husband Willie).
She is survived by her husband: Bruce Jones of Wilmar, AR; her eldest son: Mr. James Eugene (Jimmy) Steward and (wife Shawndray) of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters: Nia and Jayla Steward; goddaughter: Martina Williams and her son Giovannie Nellams of Seattle; brothers: Horace Mitchell, Jr. and (wife Dorothy), Willie Mitchell and Dale Mitchell of Seattle; and sisters: Linda Mitchell, Seattle and Evelyn Enigbokan and (husband Tunde) of Plano, Texas; cousin Karen Ward and (husband Michael) of Tacoma; uncle, Bobby Mitchell and (wife Charlene) of Federal Way and aunt, Linda Walker of Seattle; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
May Dorothy’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace. We miss her smile.
