In Loving Memory of Alvene Dorothy Alston


Alvene Dorothy Alston was born on December 20, 1937 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Earline and Alton Brewton Sr. On December 5, 1955, Alvene married Wilbert K. Alston. In 1966, Mr. and Mrs. Alston moved to Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood with their six children.

Alvene was a founding member of The Church of Jesus Christ and Pastor’s wife for over 55 years. In 1987, Alvene founded In The Beginning Daycare modeled after Seattle Public School’s Head Start program. In 1990, Alvene received an award and recognition for the Best Home Daycare in Seattle. Alvene’s contributions to her family, church and friends are immeasurable.

On April 25, 2024, Alvene was released from the cares of this world. She leaves to rejoice in her loving memory: husband of nearly 68 years, four surviving children, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, extended family and friends.

Funeral Service: Saturday, June 1, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ, 1708 East Fir Street in Seattle. Viewing at 11:00am. Service at 12:00pm. interment: Monday, June 3rd at 1:15pm, Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 Southeast 240th Street, Kent, Washington. Arrangements by Curnow Funeral Home in Sumer, Washington.
