Finding gratitude in Thanksgiving’s timing

Thanksgiving origins trace back to a feast between Native Americans and European Pilgrims. This feast symbolized a moment of cooperation where two vastly different groups united to celebrate the abundant harvest achieved that season.

Today, Thanksgiving staples include plastic tupperware, aluminum foil, and sweet potato pie – specifically in Black households. Though this is true, I’d like to offer you some insights to consider as you prep the mac ‘n cheese or potato salad.

For the first time, I’ve realized the gift of Thanksgiving’s timing. If it were in July, I’d likely overlook the year’s final stretch. But, being in late November, it inspires gratitude and hope, urging us to make the most of what remains.

The holiday season can feel overwhelming—juggling inflation, bills, work, events, and personal challenges like grief or growth. Yet, Thanksgiving is a time to pause and celebrate. Take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come.
