September is
Prostate Cancer
Awareness Month….
One in six Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is much more aggressive in Black men than other races and ethnicities. Black men are also just over twice as likely to die from prostate cancer than white men. One way to diminish these numbers is to get screened. If your father or brother had prostate cancer, you should start getting screened between the ages of 40-45. If you don’t have a close relative who had or had prostate cancer, age 50 is when you need to start getting screened. All Black men should get screened every year or every other year. This is something to discuss with your health care provider. Remember, early detection is the key to increasing survival rates.
